How to Plan Your Perfect Dressing Room

Find out what's important when planning a walk-in wardrobe.
With these planning tips, you can realise your dream of your own dressing room.

Get an overview: Determine the size of your dressing room. Firstly, think about how much space you need for your clothes. Plan the necessary storage space by deciding whether you need more clothes rails or shelves for your clothes. Also consider whether you want to store shoes in the wardrobe or need space for bed linen. How many drawers do you want?

Show courage: Clear out your wardrobe. Clothes that you haven't worn in the last year take up unnecessary space and slow down your search for the perfect outfit. Show courage and get rid of old clothes and accessories to make room for new items. The discarded clothes can be donated to your local second-hand shop or to a clothing bank where they are urgently needed.

Tidiness is a must: Keep your wardrobe organised. The larger your walk-in wardrobe is, the more logically it should be organised. Sort your clothes by type, size, colour or season. This will make it easier for you to find the right outfit more quickly. Take your time so that you know where the clothes should end up when you are planning them and don't have to sort them after you have organised them.

Favourites at eye level: Arrange your clothes properly. Things that are at the bottom or too high up are out of sight and will be forgotten. This is why frequently worn clothing should be between 50 cm and 170 cm high, ideally your favourite jeans at eye level. Areas below 50 cm and above 170 cm are suitable for bed linen, towels and seasonal clothing. Our gridboards (wire shelves) are ideal for the upper compartments to keep an overview.

The right depth: Choose the size of your shelves: a depth of 40 cm is sufficient for folded clothes. If you want more space, you should choose shelves with a depth of 50 cm. Clothes on hangers require 50 cm of space.

Space is good: Plan clothes rails and shelves. Avoid piling clothes too high or hanging hangers too close together, as this causes clutter. Here are some guidelines for planning: 25 shirts, 20 trousers, skirts and suits or 10 winter jackets fit on an 80 cm clothes rail.
3 stacks of shirts or 4 pairs of shoes will fit on an 80 cm shelf.

Off to the secret compartment: Place storage boxes in drawers. Drawer units are suitable for clothes that need to be stored neatly and dust-free. Add inserts with compartments to drawers to organise small items such as stockings, belts and ties. Bed linen and seasonal clothing can be stored in storage boxes with lids.

Dressing Room Ideas: These Variants Are Available for Your Home

Dressing Room Sloping Roof

A dressing room under a sloping roof can be a good way of making optimum use of the space and keeping clothes organised. The columns of our CLOS-IT shelving system can be adjusted to the height of the pitched roof with centimetre precision. A roof slope adapter, which adapts to the roof slope using a ball joint, is also available for the system.

Small Dressing Room

Even if you only have limited space available, you can create a small dressing room that meets your needs with a few tricks. Utilise the room height with ceiling-high shelving systems. This creates more storage space and makes the room appear larger. Dark wall colours should be avoided in this room as they make it appear smaller. Mirrors, on the other hand, can enlarge the room and make it appear brighter. To organise everything more clearly, use soft boxes or baskets in which smaller accessories can be stored.

Add a Personal Touch to Your Dressing Room

The colour scheme of the dressing room depends on personal taste, but also on the size and layout of the room. As a general rule, light colours make the room appear larger and friendlier, while dark colours convey cosiness and elegance. You can opt for a neutral colour palette that goes with all kinds of outfits or use your favourite colours to create accents that reflect your style.

The light in your dressing room is not only important for the mood, but also for the function. After all, you want to see your clothes and make-up in a natural and flattering light so that you can make the right decisions. Therefore, make sure that your dressing room has sufficient natural light, for example through a window or skylight. If this is not possible, you can use Mulitight LED surface-mounted luminaires to provide good artificial lighting that illuminates the clothes and room evenly.

The floor in the dressing room should not only match your style, but also your needs. A wooden floor conveys warmth and naturalness, while a tiled floor radiates coolness and elegance. Combined with a rug, you can create a cosy atmosphere. The important thing is that you feel comfortable, regardless of whether you enter the room with or without shoes.

The dressing room is not just a place to get dressed, but also a place to feel good. That's why you should decorate it with accessories that reflect your character and preferences. With a mirror, you can not only check your outfit, but also visually enlarge the room. A pouf or armchair can be used to put on shoes or as a shelf for clothes. Another highlight could be a dressing table where you can get ready for the day in peace and quiet in the morning.

MADE TO MEASURE

Dressing room made to measure to the centimetre

If you need cut to size shelf boards, wardrobe rails or posts to fit your space, no problem. In our shelf configurator you can easily set your individual dimensions using the slider. For example, you can make use of small niches or configure lower columns to avoid a window.

Your desired dimensions are then cut to size in our in-house workshop. To ensure a clean cut, the cut to size shelf boards are made from chipboard. This distinguishes them from standard shef boards with a honeycomb core. However, the coating and board thickness are identical.

Lasts a lifetime

Our shelving systems combine timeless design with modularity. This means they not only adapt to your personal style, but also meet changing needs.

  • Modular & timeless
  • Adaptable to new spaces
  • As if made to measure
  • Durable and robust
